IDENTIFYING THE PROBLEM

Breaking Barriers in Mental Health Support.

The NHS Trailblazers initiative provides crucial mental health support to young people in at-risk areas, ensuring they receive guidance and care when needed. While 7,500 young people have already received support, NHS England recognised the need to extend their reach beyond face-to-face and mobile sessions to an accessible, digital-first platform.

The key challenges were:

Creating a centralised resource to display NHS-approved mental health services.
Providing clear signposting to young people, parents, carers, and professionals.
Educating young people on mental health and reducing stigma.
Ensuring accessibility and engagement for a broad age range (12–18).

The solution needed to be dynamic, engaging, and easy to navigate, encouraging young people to take control of their mental health journey.

An Engaging and Accessible Mental Health Hub.

To address these challenges, we developed an interactive, youth-focused platform that provides valuable mental health education and directs users to NHS support services. By making mental health information more accessible and engaging, the platform helps reduce stigma and encourages open conversations around mental well-being. Key enhancements include login and registration functionality for personalised experiences; engaging multimedia content such as videos, animations, memes, and GIFs; extensive signposting to relevant services and resources; clear navigation and targeted content tailored for young people, parents, and professionals; a vibrant, accessible design featuring bright colours, playful fonts, and animations; mobile responsiveness for access anytime, anywhere; elastic search and effective filtering to help users find information quickly; and third-party analytics integration, enabling the NHS Trailblazers team to track engagement and continually optimise the platform.
